The ArtBeat Music and Arts Festival on October 13 celebrates the creative strengths and talents of the Gold Coast’s mental health community. It will be held at the Gold Coast University Hospital Parklands, with an exhibition from October 10-27.
An annual Gold Coast event is proving that art and music can bring purpose and happiness to our lives.
Now in its 10th year, the ArtBeat Music and Arts Festival aims to de-stigmatise mental health. They do this by giving patients a platform to express their experiences in their own way.
An event by Gold Coast Health, the exhibition aligns with Queensland Mental Health Week. It is supported by the hospital’s own in-house artisans and music therapists.
Gold Coast University Hospital mental health staff say the patients have put their hearts and souls into their creations.Â
By channelling self-expression into something that can be shared publicly, they can remain focused on their recovery, the staff say. And also build meaning and purpose into their lives.Â
The ArtBeat Music and Arts Festival will be held on October 13 at the Gold Coast University Hospital Parklands from 11am-2pm.
The festival is open to the public – including all Gold Coast Health community members, staff and consumers. There will be live music, food, giveaways, face painting, free mental health information, and more.
Artwork will be on display at the hospital’s Main Foyer until October 10-27.
The Gold Coast University Hospital Parklands is at 53 Parklands Dr, Southport.
