Peach Pit Monday night

October 15, 20232 min read

Fortitude Valley: High school rock lads Peach Pit who became an international sensation overnight will bring their indi-pop sounds to The Tivoli tomorrow.

Following other music gods who formed in the confines of their educational system – such as Silverchair, Green Day and The Cure – the boys from Vancouver are in Australia for Woolloongong’s Yours And Owls Festival, with Brisbane lucky enough to snag one of their two side shows.

Their tour comes also in support of the band’s third studio-album, From 2 To 3, which hit airwaves earlier this year featuring new fan-faves, “Up Granville”, “Look Out!” and “Vickie”.

Formed in 2014 by two guitar-playing high schoolers Neil Smith and Chris Vanderkooy, the boys were quickly joined by Peter Wilton and Mikey Pascuzzi, and by 2016 they had their debut EP, Sweet FA.

Soon followed were hugely popular albums, Being So Normal, in 2017 and You And Your Friends in 2020.

The band had to quit their jobs – as delivery drivers, a beer pourer, and carpenter – to go on their first tour of North America, Europe and Asia from 2017-2018, and they’ve been steadily touring since.

Self-described as “chewed-up bubblegum”, with all their oozing synth sounds and melodic guitar riffs, Peach Pit’s sound is characterised by soft vocals and a surf pop-rock sound.

With more than 2.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone, things don’t look like they are slowing up any time soon for Peach Pit.

And word has it the band has sported the same clothes for every live performance since buying them for their first music video shoot.

Will they continue the trend in Brisbane? Let us know!

Catch them at The Tivoli, Monday, October 16, from 6pm.
