Boys are back in town at Broadbeach

September 19, 20233 min read

Broadbeach: The original “boy from the bush” and Australian country music legend Lee Kernaghan will join US country superstar Jackson Dean (hello, Yellowstone!) and this year’s Golden Guitar best-album winner Casey Barnes to headline Groundwater Country Music Festival on October 20-22.

They join queens of country music: two-time ARIA nominated Amber Lawrence, who also took a Golden Guitar award this year for best female artist; emerging songstress Sara Berki, whose impressive 2022 debut EP (produced by Troy Cassar-Daley and Gotye) conquered country music charts; and Brisbane’s witchy-style sisters, Vixens of Fall, brought to the spotlight by fellow Aussie country queen Gina Jeffreys.

Just steps from the golden beaches of Broadbeach, and set throughout the suburb’s streets, parks and venues, festival-goers can experience the magic of the Gold Coast backdrop all while enjoying unbeatable performances from a host of national and international acts.

Barnes, a Gold Coast native, said he would be nothing without the Groundwater Country Music Festival.

“This was one of the first festivals to give me a start back in the day and I’ll never forget that,” Casey said.

“I know I’m not meant to have favourites but when it comes to Groundwater, it’s definitely at the top of the list and I’m so honoured to be part of yet another amazing line-up to celebrate the 10th anniversary.”

Queensland Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe congratulated organisers of the festival saying it had put the Gold Coast on the global country music map.

“This award-winning music festival has become an icon in its own right as one of the Gold Coast’s must-do, bucket-list visitor experiences,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“Last year more than 20,000 music fans experienced the Groundwater Country Music Festival, generating more than $9.4 million for the Gold Coast visitor economy.”
