Yelo is a publisher and promoter of local live music.
Yelo Mag debuted as a Sunshine Coast online music website in mid-2023, with a mission to crank up the local music scene.
As an amateur musician, working the inner-trappings of the underground music scene, Yelo publisher Penny decided she needed a manual of Sunshine Coast live music happenings.
So she created one!
Think: 90s music street press, with community-newspaper spirit and punk-rock flair.
Sometimes we’ll even jump on some breaking news, such as Korn headlining Good Things or Tones and I‘s meet-and-greet at Kings Beach Tavern, which sold out in minutes.
Except, isn’t everything online these days? Enter one of my best mates Marty who just so happens to be one of the best tech dudes in Australia.
Simply put, he can create good shit.
Marty just so happens to be an uber-cool, Gen-X music lover too.
So, naturally I roped Marty into my wild “yellow mag” idea, where the vibrant colour seemed to encapsulate everything about this “sunny-side up” region.
Marty said it needed to be called “Yelo”.
And here it is.
With the music industry in repair mode as we work to heal from the COVID pandemic aftershocks, many creatives have experienced isolation and depression like never before.
So, Penny made it Yelo’s mission to bring joy to the community through music and connection.
Because, in this digitally-toxic world we all need a bit more of that gentle, human touch.
And the soothing, primal beats which bind us together, helping to heal our tethered hearts and souls.
Since launching Yelo, we’ve widened the Mooloolaba prawn net to take in some of the vibrant Brisbane and Gold Coast live music scenes.
And sometimes we even catch up on some global music news, delivered by a cheeky seagull (chip included).
Through Yelo Media, we too offer promotional services to artists and bands.
Our message will always remain the same: heal the people with music.
Check out our Sunshine Coast online music magazine at Yelo.Live and we hope to see you at one of our favourite local music venues soon.
Love, team Yelo
