Music Mafia will unite emerging artists at The Cave Inn

July 23, 20243 min read

Four breakthrough acts will pool their talents for a musical showcase at Woolloogabba on August 9.

Music Mafia will feature Ampersand, Hati, and Hugo & The Hive and Lydia Urbina at The Cave Inn.

Ampersand keys player and manager Jarrod Tutbury says Music Mafia is a new collaboration between like-minded independent artists.

“Simply put, this lineup has united us as independents to share gigs and support each other when the music industry is struggling,” Jarrod says.

“This is our attempt to take some agency in an increasingly unpredictable time.

“These bands have distinct flavours which will surely spice up your night with indie, pop, funk and neo-soul sensations.

“If you want to support live music and discover a new favourite sound this is your chance.”

Music Mafia line-up:

7:00-7:40 | Hugo and the Hive

7:50-8:30 | Hati

8:40-9:20 | Ampersand

9:30-10:10 | Lydia Urbina

The Cave Inn is at 47 Balaclava St, Woolloongabba.

Meet the bands:

Lydia Urbina (main picture) is the answer to every music lover who has been waiting for a new Australian artist. The Brisbane local has been cultivating her talents and experience to form a prominent music career in her own right as a singer, songwriter and performer. Joined by her band, Lydia is a soulful artist with a captivating voice, and a knack for blending pop melodies with R’n’B and rock undertones. Lydia is now on a mission to share her sound, while working on her debut album.

Ampersand is an exuberant, entertaining and ever-evolving funk/neo-soul/pop fusion band featuring two spectacular lead vocalists (Katie Brown and Isi Semmler) backed by a tight, innovative trio of keys, bass and drums (Jarrod Tutbury, Jed Green and Orlando Hamilton-Craig). Sunshine Coast locals have become their second family in the past three years of gigging, as Ampersand effortlessly improvise and converse musically. With their recently-released debut EP, “Entry Level”, hitting streaming goals the gang is now spreading their wings beyond their hometown.

Hati (pictured) is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and musical collaborator from Brisbane. She’s been creating music for over 13 years and strives to develop music that lyrically and instrumentally creates an individual experience for each listener on both and extremely simplistic and musically complex level. For the first time live, Hati will be joined by her new band, elevating her soulful original music to greater heights.

Hugo and The Hive is an original queer indie-rock band of best friends from Gympie, since 2019. Their line-up is Liz on bass, Elke-Louie on guitar and vocals, Korbin on guitar and sax, and Nat on drums and more if they are in the mood to change things up. Their influences are Greta Van Fleet, Amy Winehouse, Weezer, Spacy Jane, and Ed Helms. The gang plans to all relocate to Brisbane in 2025, stepping up their live shows and releasing original music.
