New Year’s Eve in Brisbane

December 25, 20232 min read

Usher in the new year with a kaleidoscope of colour at The Lord Mayor’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks on Sunday, December 31.

The evening will showcase two free spectacular fireworks shows at South Bank Parklands for families at 8.30pm, and one at midnight for the late-night revellers.

The best viewing locations at South Bank include Clem Jones Promenade, the Cultural Forecourt, Riverside Green and River Quay.

To ensure public safety, South Bank Parklands will be fenced with bag checks conducted for all patrons from 10am.

South Bank Parklands retailers will be open during the day with takeaway food also available from pop-up food and beverage vendors in the Cultural Forecourt.

South Bank Parklands will be an alcohol-free site on the day, except for those dining in a restaurant or licensed premises, which will abide by the usual liquor license rules. You can bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages into the Parklands however metal cutlery and other sharp items are prohibited. Other prohibited items include drink bottles with unsealed lids (including bottles of water or soft drink) scooters, bikes, pets, glass, marquees and any large portable structures.

Public transport is the best way to travel to South Bank Parklands for the fireworks. Use the Journey Planner on Translink to plan ahead. Free travel will be available on Translink buses, trains and ferries from 8pm on 31 December 2023 to 5.30am on 1 January 2024. Please note Cross River Rail works will impact the Beenleigh and Gold Coast train lines over this period. For information about upcoming works and disruptions, visit Cross River Rail’s Travel Checker online.

There will also be road closures in and around the South Bank Parklands precinct, South Brisbane and Brisbane City. Check our community service announcementfor more information.
