Gig Guide: The Penny Drop

January 18, 20243 min read

Hey guys! As always, there’s loads to froth over this week on the Sunny Coast’s live music scene. Here’s my top picks for Thursday, January 18 to Saturday, January 20.

Thursday:

Jay Bishoff‘s new open mic “The Songrise” is on tonight at The Presynct, in Nambour, from 6pm, just register at the door!

Friday:

Jordan Mac will be “live in the alley” at Alley Cat Espresso in Coolum, from 6pm. Expect good vibes, food, and dancing into the night.

Andy V will also serve up a dance session at 4 Pines Noosa, from 8.30pm, for the after work revellers wanting to let off some steam.

Kingswood – this the main event for me. The alt-rock boys from Melbourne know how to throw a rollicking good, hoe down, shown down. This one is going to ROCK. Supporting them will be The Buckleys and The Stone Apes… and don’t forget you can grab a $10 hot dog and beer to help you sink into the weekend feels. Tickets to Kingswood at Solbar here.

I’ll also be checking out the long-haired local larrikin, Pricey, at The Presynct, who is playing over two nights, Friday and Saturday. Friday will see Catching Salmon and Chamber Lane. I’ve not yet seen Chamber Lane (I don’t mind a bit of their Liana song) so I’m going to see if I can stop in there and catch them, before I head off to Kingswood.

And I’m still yet to see Pricey too, so if I miss him on Friday I’ll head to his show on Saturday!

Saturday:

Catch Pricey at The Presynct again on Saturday with Brixton Alley and Lazy Guns. That’s sure to be a solid punk rock show right there. Tickets to both Pricey shows here.

And if you’re after something a bit more cruisy, soul-filling, nourishing, wholesome, kid-friendly, and all those yummy things, then your local soul girl Andrea Kirwin has a basket weaving and music event at her Nambour studio, Peace Run Records, with Paula Boo. Paula is an island singer-songwriter and this workshop runs from 10am-12.30pm. Then there’s a music concert part to the event from 6.30pm. You can choose to do one or the other – or both! Book here.

And last but not least, Melbourne indie pop duo Client Liaison (main picture) will be at Kings Beach Tavern. If you like a bit of 80s and 90s techno pop, with some disco dancing and outfits louder than the music, then this is gonna be a fun one! Tickets here.

Have the best weekend Sunny Coast, and stay Yelo! Peace x
