Japanese hardcore sisters bring electrifying show

October 18, 20232 min read

Woolloongabba: Punk rock girl-gang Otoboke Beaver will play at Princess Theatre on October 22.

The pint-sized rockers, from Kyoto, are a force to be reckoned with offering a thrilling live show, combining confrontational performances with off-kilter compositions and incredible musicianship.

Formed at Kyoto University’s music club in 2009, the all-female hardcore quartet has gained fans world-wide for their larger-than-life shows, which seamlessly blaze through sets.

Otoboke Beaver (おとぼけビ~バ~) takes its name from a “love hotel” in the the band’s native city, and the girls describe themselves as a “knock-out or pound-cake” band.

With their 2016 release of “Okoshiyasu!! Otoboke Beaver”, they’ve had break-through performances at SXSW and FujiRock festivals, and a sold-out show in London’s legendary 100 Club, with song “Love Is Short”, which charted in the UK for four weeks.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is a recent convert as is the British indie-rock band, The Cribs, who described them as: “PUNK AS F*CK”.

In 2018 their “ATTYUUMA” tour saw them travel over 24,000 miles in a week on a UK tour, bookmarked by slots at US music festival Coachella.

And 2020 saw the band quit their day jobs so they could devote more time to world tours.

Their latest album, “Super Champon”, released last year put them on the road once more, with major tours across Japan, the US, Europe and now Australia.

Catch them at the Princess Theatre while they’re here!

Otoboke Beaver play Princess Theatre on October 22. Princess Theatre is at 8 Annerley Rd, Woolloongabba, Brisbane.
