Young Sunshine Coast musicians are being urged to test out their skills at Youth Fest’s Battle of the Bands to win $3000 worth of recording.

Youth Fest Battle of the Bands will be held at Baringa Civic Square, Caloundra, on April 12, from 2pm.

The winning prize includes two full consecutive studio days at Yama-Nui Studios including production, tracking, mixing and mastering of a single song – release ready!

Additional time will be available to the winners at a discounted rate if required. 

The Yama-Nui production team has worked with many leading Australian and international acts such as Ziggy Alberts, Jordan Rakai, Wolfmother, Bobby Alu and The Go-Betweens. 

The runner up wins the opening slot at Norton Music Factory‘s Next Gen Youth Fest show on Saturday May 4, alongside local bands Ampersand and Wave Raiders (pictured). 

Competition requirements

• Open to solo, duos, trios or bands 
• Aged between: 12-25
• Perform 1-3 songs, covers or originals
• Provided: Full drum kit, cymbals, 2 guitar amps, bass amp, mics and DI’s
• Just bring your instrument/sticks! 

Ampersand to perform

Noosa fusion-funk band Ampersand (main picture) will perform and help judge the event.

Band manager and keys player Jarrod Tutbury says these opportunities are important for the Coast.

“We need these events to encourage the massive pool of young talent here to get out there, and also support those artists who are already making their own path,” Jarrod says.

“The opportunity to win a session at Yama Nui Studios is extremely exciting and valuable.

“All of Ampersand’s music has been recorded at Yama Nui, so we can’t recommend it highly enough. 

“The Norton’s Music Factory show will offer an extremely polished and multi-genre line-up of the best young artists gigging on the Coast right now. More to come on that event soon.”

Youth Fest Battle of the Bands is a Sunshine Coast Council and Stockland initiative.
