Maroochydore’s Solbar proved there’s a market for young stars to shine on the big stage when mini punk-rockers Wave Raiders performed to a packed house on Sunday.
The Wave Raiders were debuting their single, “Fun”, produced by Grammy-nominee and ARIA Award-winning producer Steve James, who has worked with The Screaming Jets, The Angels, Cold Chisel, and Skunkhour.
From the youngest mosher at just five-years-old to the most seasoned rocker at 65, it was an afternoon that hit harder than your morning espresso, turning the Coast’s entertainment precinct into a full-on rock ‘n’ roll revival.
The show also saw killer acts from Ella Joy, Ultraviolets and Caboolture’s 14-year-old singing songstress Grace Alexandra.
The Wave Raiders stormed the stage with an electrifying set, with their audience demanding an encore.
The afternoon proved more than just a showcase of exceptional young talent, it also highlighted the urgent need for more spaces to champion emerging artists in the all-ages scene.
Lead guitarist and singer, Pete Jr., says he’s pumped to finally have their music out in the world.
“It was incredible to perform to a full house and such a mixed crowd and I really hope this proves to venues and promoters that all-ages gigs aren’t just important – they’re essential for the future of live music,” Pete Jr. says.
“There’s so much talent out there and young people need these spaces to express themselves and develop their skills.”
With a line of punters stretching down the footpath before the show, it was obvious that this family is really the bands’ secret ingredient.
‘We need more opportunities for these bands, not less’
Their manager and proud dad Peter De Waard shared how much blood, sweat and sacrifice went into making the single launch a reality.
“This journey has been an uphill battle. From rehearsals to managing every aspect of the event, it’s been months of hard work and determination. The boys poured their hearts into this and it paid off.
“They’ve come so far, but it’s frustrating to see how few platforms exist for young, emerging talent and I hope the success of this gig helps shine a light on the need for change in the industry – we need more opportunities for these bands, not less.”
As the night drew to a close, the cheers and applause from fans young and old confirmed what many already knew: the Wave Raiders are here to stay and their future looks brighter than ever.
With the overwhelming support for their single launch, the boys hope the music industry will now see the hunger and need for more similar events.
