Death Valley Girls bring psych-rock sorcery

September 28, 20233 min read

Fortitude Valley: Los Angeles sassy and unapologetic rocksters, Death Valley Girls, will bring their psych-rock sorcery to the Valley’s Black Bear Lodge in November.

Known for their infectious blend of garage rock, punk, and cosmic-powered flow, these dreamy music mystics have garnered a cult following worldwide, with a signature style and mesmerising communal witchy energy that has captured the love and attention of fans from far and wide.

It will be the band’s first trip to Australia, bringing a decade’s worth of professionalism and experience, having spent several years smashing it out to LA locals in the city’s grungy tourist trap, and at events and festivals nationally for years, with hits such as “Magic Powers, “Islands an the Sky” and “I am a Wave”.

This year marks the band’s 10 years, forming in 2013, and consisting of super hip vocalist and keyboardist Bonnie Bloomgarden (best name ever), guitarist Larry Schemel, bassist Sammy Westervelt, and drummer Rikki Styxx.

Bloomgarden reminisced about the support they received from local venues in the group’s earlier years to Quip Mag (pictured): “Actually when we first started the band, we couldn’t get a show and our dream was to play the Burger record shop. Somehow that ended up being our first show and (when) we were there I was so nervous. We met them that day and we asked them to put out our tape and they agreed. I knew about Burger records before I was even in a band. The kids get a chance at Burger, they get a chance to play and a place to play.”

Death Valley Girls, who have travelled from the heart of LA, are thrilled to be finally able to unleash their classic and unrelenting assault of seismic and feminine reverberating sounds to the Valley, which sets the perfect atmosphere for their adrenaline-fuelled performance of super-rad, prog-rock n’ roll.

These magical musos, and their fiery and universally-charged spiritual sounds, renowned for leaving a sonic destruction in their wake, will hit Brisbane’s favourite music venue Black Bear Lodge on November 30, and this will sell out so be sure to snap up a ticket or seven.

Death Valley Girls play at one of Brisbane’s best live music spots, Black Bear Lodge, in Fortitude Valley on November 30, Thursday, 7:30pm.
