Surfers Paradise: Internationally-renowned Australian DJ Will Sparks brings his dominating energetic force to Asylum Nightclub later this month.
The electronic dance music’s pioneer of “Melbourne bounce” began producing music at the age of 15 and quickly became a prominent figure in the city’s underground music scene.
After a rebellious stint of sneaking into local clubs, Sparks dropped out of high school to pursue a career in music.
His 2013 breakout record, Bring It Back, featuring fellow Aussie DJ and producer Joel Fletcher, hit Australia’s top 40 charts, earning Sparks a platinum certification.
The following year he snatched legions of followers after users of video-sharing platform TikTok used music from standout single, “Ah Yeah So What”, for a series of ‘shuffle dance’ tutorials which went viral.
The track peaked in the top five of Australian music charts giving Sparks a second platinum certification.
He has since received numerous accolades for his work, including “Best Breakthrough Artist” at the 2013 inthemix Awards and a top gong in the country’s 2014 ARIA Music Awards for “Best EDM/Dance Release”.
Sparks has played at some of the world’s most prominent music festivals, including Tomorrowland, Electric Daisy Carnival, Parookaville and Air Beat One, and Sparks has even created remixes for a variety of global artists, including Mark Ronson, Steve Aoki and Louis The Child.
Now at age 30, the versatile artist has moved away from “Melbourne bounce”, exploring darker shades of techno on tracks such as 2020’s “Nevermind” and “Kids These Days”.
With his distinctive style and infectious beats, Sparks continues to be an unstoppable force in the dance music scene, amassing more than 500 million streams on Spotify, Apple Music and Youtube alone.
Catch Will Sparks at Asylum Nightclub, 15 Orchid Ave, Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast, on Saturday October 21, from 9.30pm.
