Southport: Aussie 90s rocksters Regurgitator, AKA The ‘Gurge, will help Vinnie’s Dive Bar ring in five years taking up residency at the venue over two days in November.

The iconic Brisbane band, who brought us smash hits “Polyester Girl” and “!(The Song Formerly Known As)” plus famed records, Tu-Plang, and, Unit, (when people listened to whole albums, or should we say CDs) will join a host of other epic grass-roots bands to celebrate the venue’s ‘big five’, over two days.

Regurgitator will play at Vinnie’s Dive Bar on November 17 with Voiid, Brixton Alley and Prink, and on November 18 with Mitch, Please and Anty, from 7.30pm both days.

Vinnie’s is also celebrating Gold Coast Council’s recent announcement of a Special Entertainment Precinct (SEP) at Southport, joining two other precincts already established in Brisbane and Nambour, making them only three of its kind in Australia.

The SEPs redefine zoning restrictions in specified areas, allowing smaller venues such as restaurants and bars to play louder music.

Gold Coast City Mayor Tom Tate told YELO last month the SEP was based on Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley model “to separate noise management from the Office of Liquor and Gaming in order for this to be managed by Council”.

“Three live music venues have signed licenses with the City (including Vinnie’s) and a campaign is being developed to encourage more applications.

“This is the first project in this space which has taken many years to complete. Other proposals will be considered as the need and demand from stakeholders arise.”

Join Vinnie’s, Mr P.P.’s Deli and Rooftop, and Last Night on Earth, in celebrating the new precinct with Southport Downtown Live, from November 13-19.

Locals can expect a whole week of music, dancing, food, art and culture, with three venues, six stages, 21 street performers, and 150 artists over seven days.

There will be soul, Latin, Brazilian, afro and reggae, hip-hop, rock, punk, hard core and everything in between.
