A rainbow of events this winter made available by new funding category

May 24, 20242 min read

Lovers of music, food, fashion, art and culture can look forward to a series of creative events made possible by a new Sunshine Coast Council initiative.

The “Emerging Events” category was added to the Major Events Sponsorship Program to allow a more diverse range of events.

The first events to be funded in this tier include the Australian Wearable Art Festival, The Rangebow Festival, Sunshine Coast Chamber Music Festival and SHOWFEST.

Powderfinger’s Jon Coghill launches SHOWFEST

SHOWFEST is an evolution of the Sunny Coast Showdown, a not-for-profit event which aims to boost the local film and TV industry, Jon says.

“This grant makes all of that more possible and makes all the hard work of our small team of volunteers worth it,” he says.

“I believe Council sees that SHOWFEST is about involving as many people in the community as possible and has the potential for bring people into the region to appreciate our blossoming film industry.

“Running a successful arts event is hard and people have no idea of the time, expertise and energy it takes to bring such a significant event together.

“This grant gives us the confidence to keep moving forward and encourages us to look at how we can grow and expand our audiences.”

Council’s Major Events Strategy

Council’s Major Events Strategy provides an action plan to ensure that emerging events continue to contribute to the vision for the Sunshine Coast region.

It forms part of Council’s Regional Economic Development Strategy to boost the visitor economy and grow the region’s economy to $33 billion by 2033 and deliver 100,000 high value jobs.
