September 26, 20233 min read

Miami: “Black fingernails, red wine!”

You remember how it goes.

Aussie 90s rock icons Eskimo Joe hit Miami Marketta this Friday, September 29.

Since forming in 1997, Eskimo Joe has racked up an impressive list of accomplishments, with six studio-albums under their belts and sales in excess of 750,000.

As their storied career continues to evolve, the band has come a long way from their humble beginnings as much-loved indie rock kids in Fremantle, WA.

With three albums shooting to number 1 on the ARIA charts, the band continued success into the 2000s, with juggernaut, “Black Fingernails, Red Wine” shining for a monster 62 weeks in the ARIA Chart Top 50, and “Foreign Land” bringing home 2 APRA Awards for Most Played Rock Song on Australian Radio and Best Rock Song of 2010.

With a whopping 35 ARIA nominations – a number only surpassed by Silverchair, Powderfinger, Kylie Minogue and John Farnham – Eskimo Joe has snagged eight of those ARIA awards and brought home three International Song-Writing Awards and 11 WAMi Awards.

Not to mention 11 of their compositions scored spots on Triple J radio’s 2006 “Hottest 100 Countdown”, with “Black Fingernails, Red Wine” coming in at number two.

However, it’s the stage where Eskimo Joe truly shines.

They have performed at significant festivals and events including; Sound Relief, Live Earth, Make Poverty History, the ARIA Awards, the APRA Awards, Big Day Out, Homebake, Laneway Festival, Falls Festival, Southbound, Splendour In The Grass, Triple J’s One Night Stand, The Australian Open, AFL and Sundance Film Festival in Utah, USA.

After a seven-year hiatus, the band returned with 2020 single, “Say Something”, showing the band’s musicianship at its peak with a catchy melody and meaningful messages.

Lead singer/songwriter, bassist and occasional keys player Satyam Kavyen “Kav” Temperley said the song was inspired by the world-wide climate protests spearheaded by young people.

“We could never have predicted how relevant this song would be in 2020. To us, the song has ended up becoming a statement to act with humanity, and without prejudice or violence towards each other.

“The song is complemented by a powerful clip edited and produced by band member, Joel Quartermain during Covid-19 isolation.”

Eskimo Joe play at Miami Marketta on Friday, September 29, 6pm-10pm.

Miami Marketta is at 23 Hillcrest Parade, Miami, Gold Coast, Queensland. Tickets here.
