Blondie, Alice Cooper and Placebo: ‘Pandemonium’ expected at all-star festival

January 18, 20244 min read

Queensland has scored some serious heavy metal royalty with the announcement of a world-class rock festival.

Major acts Alice Cooper, Placebo, Deep Purple and Wheatus are set to descend on Sunny Coast shores at Sandstone Point Hotel, on April 28.

Doug Jennings Park, on the Gold Coast, will see the same acts, including Blondie, on April 27. Whoah!

If that wasn’t enough, check out the full line up: Alice Cooper, Blondie, Placebo, Deep Purple, The Psychedelic Furs, Dead Kennedys, Gang Of Four, Wolfmother, Cosmic Psychos, Wheatus, Gyroscope, Palaye Royale, and Petch.

WTAF!?

The music industry picks up

Although, should we really expect any less with Big Pineapple Festival, Groovin the Moo and The Station (formerly Nightquarter), all bouncing back open for business?

And don’t forget Comiskey Groups’ Coachella-style festival precinct Coochin Fields is still on the cards.

Touted as “Australia’s hottest new rock festival”, there’s been huge hype over Pandemonium, which will see our nation’s hard rock and punk fans treated to their first ever show when it hits four cities in April (including Melbourne and Sydney), meaning the sunshine state makes for half the entire tour.

Nice work, banana benders.

However, for an unknown reason Blondie will skip the Sandstone Point leg – nooooooo.

Never fear, surely British band The Psychedelic Furs will make up for it – “The Ghost in You”, anyone? A seriously sick 80s alt-rock song, put it on stat!

Aussie rock giants Gyroscope and Wolfmother will also join the lineup, however local bands have been snubbed.

A plea from local musicians

Chamber Lane lead singer Connor Hanson, of Mountain Creek, said he couldn’t wait to see “some of the biggest bands in the world”, but had hoped organisers would include local artists.

“I’m a huge fan of a lot of the bands on the lineup, particularly Dead Kennedys. It’s a solid idea bringing together some of America’s and Australia’s biggest acts into one festival,” he said.

“I think it’ll be one of those festivals that’s worth the money they’ll be asking for it, it’s a crazy good set of bands, and I mean Blondie for crying out loud!

“Shame they haven’t added some of the newer, younger cats to the bill.

“It’s time they start throwing us in with the big dogs! We will end up teaching the old dusters a thing or two.

“That aside, you might see me there, it’s sounds like a good time to be fair… somebody tell them Chamber Lane should be added to the bill effective immediately!”
