A few lucky revellers got to experience a mini rave fest under the spell of Aussie electro duo Peking Duk at the Sunshine Coast’s iconic Big Pineapple on Thursday night.
The lads from Canberra posted this photo to their socials last month, beaming with excitement to be headling the Big Pineapple Music Festival on October 19.
However, they landed here earlier than expected to help celebrate the launch of a new DJ category on major streaming platform, Twitch.
The service is designed to make sure DJs are able to stream certain copyrighted songs from a vast library on the platform.
Peking Duk was projected on the big screen in Time Square as part of the 24 hour global DJ event.
Big Pineapple Festival organiser Mark Pico says he was called at the last minute to help promoters find the perfect spot for the top-secret party.
“Peking Duk were chosen to represent Australia (for the global launch),” Mark says. “Their manager asked me if I could find them a venue.
“I told him I had something way bigger and better than a venue.
“He loved the idea. And we put it together in a week.
“It was also a big secret as we didn’t want 5000 people turning up. Just 40.
“But it was a super good vibe and such a magical feeling. Everybody could feel it.”
The DJ/producer pair, Adam Hyde and Reuben Styles, have recently been part of a digital marketing drive to get Bunnings to host a warehouse rave with fellow EDM artists What So Not and Kaila.
The idea came from Sydney DJ Kaila after he remixed the Bunnings jingle with drum and bass, encouraging his fans to make it happen.
It’s yet to be announced which Aussie Bunnings will showcase the event.
