Search for Queensland’s next big country music star

May 27, 20242 min read

Maleny country music legend Col Finley is searching for the next big star in country music.

He launched the Country Stars Awards this year, which coincides with the Maleny Show, and will see 19 semi-finalists vying to share in more than $20,000 in cash and prizes.

With two categories, Junior (12-17 years) and Senior (18 years+), the semi-finalists will perform at the Maleny Show on Friday, May 31, from 1pm, culiminating in a grand final on Saturday, June 1, from 2pm.

Phoebe Rose (pictured), of Palmview, is one of the junior stars, whose captivating and evocative songwriting draws inspiration from the poetic moodiness of Phoebe Bridgers, Jewel, and Noah Cyrus.

Col says Phoebe’s vocals complement her expressive songwriting, showing off a raw vulnerability and maturity to her performance style that transcends her years.

“She’s a true multi-instrumentalist and renowned for her unforgettable stage presence,” Col says.

The Country Stars Awards also celebrates country music, bringing guest performances from Col Finley, Nellie Finley, Shanleigh Rose, Nyssa Ray, and new country star Billy Gudgeon.

The Prize Pool:

  • Nyssa Ray Recordings – single recording package
  • Music 2 Media (radio and digital distribution) – music video and media package
  • The Gympie Muster – performance package
  • Maker Enterprise Apparel – artist merchandise starters pack
  • Pro Music Australia – ARIA guitar package
  • Roar Country Clothing – clothing package
