Be prepared for interstellar space-rock jams, hypnotic guitar solos, whaling theremins, and synth soaked walls of sound!
Tassie space-rock band Golden Sunbird is touring the pineapple state and will be dropping into Greaser (Fortitude Valley) on August 29 and Mo’s Desert Clubhouse (Burleigh Heads) on September 1.
Touted as “the most unconventional rock band the universe had ever seen”, the electro-duo takes inspiration from Pink Floyd, Space, Sun Ra, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk and Hawkwind.
Golden Sunbird is all about soundscapes that explore the parallels between the unknowns of space and the depths of the human subconscious.
As artists, they try to create an alternate sci-fi reality for listeners to escape to and use a multi-modal approach to achieve alter-egos, costumes, visuals, and creative narratives.
AMRAP’s Cameron Menegoni says, “Golden Sunbird has been placed on this Earth to realign your chakras with their tripped-out pop-rock soundscapes.
“Languid, dreamy psychedelia like Floyd jamming with Tangerine Dream and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, wafting harmonies on the breeze… pure immersion!”
About Golden Sunbird
The brainchild of Luke Thomas (pictured), who writes and records all the music, Golden Sunbird is complemented by vocalist Yasmin Thomas, who also plays theremin and guitar.
Golden Sunbird has been performing for two years around Tasmania, playing MONA NYE 2023 and Party in the Paddock 2024, which they say were highlights.
Inspired by space, stars and all things sci-fi, they have two EPs, “Golden sunbird” (2022) and “Outer Worlds/ Inner Landscapes” (2023), and have released four singles this year, including “Cataclysm”, their latest release.
Golden Sunbird is hoping to start growing a fanbase on the Australian mainland, and beyond…
