Truck crash survivor Boi Crompton has returned to the music scene with a new single after a forced 22-year hiatus.
Boi was hit by a truck as a pedestrian in 2002.
It forced him to drop his performing career as one half of Sunshine Coast indie-pop act boi&eSKae.
While Boi and his partner Eskae continued working in touring production roles (with some of the biggest artists in the world) the lull to return to performing never went away.
Mastered by triple Grammy Award-winning engineer and producer Alan Branch (U2, Jeff Beck, Sinead O’Connor) in London, “Feel it in My Bones” evolved from Boi’s decision to discontinue using medication after 12 years.
Their debut album, “Come Out of the Darkness”, will be released later this year. Boi describes the single as a “landmark occasion born out of the necessity to release music”.
It explores Boi’s journey moving away from the prescribed drugs, which were intended to help him deal with the symptoms of complex PTSD.
However, Boi soon tired of their side effects.
Music puts life back into truck crash survivor from boi&eSKae
“Quite suddenly I felt human again. And started to feel things that had been suppressed for way, way too long,” Boi says.
“I had been numbed by these drugs.
“’Feel It In My Bones’ also has a very positive message in that the world throws you curve balls daily. But it’s how we react that makes us who we are as human beings.”
The couple left the hustle of touring in 2015 and have been concentrating on their own music since.
Boi describes his songwriting as “completely autobiographical”.
The boi&eSKae journey dates back to the house clubs of Sydney in 1987. They met and connected instantly over their love of music, dance and performance.
Supporting and touring the globe, boi&eSKae have played with the likes of INXS, Yothu Yindi, Hanson, Ben Lee, and Diesel. And at festivals including Woodford Folk Festival, Agnes Blues, Roots & Rock Festival, and Gympie Music Muster.
Boi calls Eskae his “muse”.
“She is in every story I write,” he says.
“But in there too, are the struggles and life’s adventures I have experienced since picking up a guitar as a teenager, on board my first posting as a young sailor in the Royal Australian Navy.”
Supportive partner Eskae will ‘cherish’ performing with Boi
Vocalist and percussionist Eskae says performing with her partner is something she will “cherish forever”.
“It’s an amazing accomplishment to travel the world in an industry that you love with the one person who gets you.”
Eskae says at times she has had to pinch herself.
“One day we are in Paris walking the Champs-ÉlysĂ©es, and the next we are in Rabat, Morocco at a festival of 60,000-plus people.”
First appearing on the major festival circuit in 2000, the pair became the first act to play at the Big Day Out festival.
In 2017, they settled on the Coast, where they share a property with their dog, “Lilu”, and cat, “Sparrow”.
And an abundance of local fauna.
They even have a show at Solbar. For tickets head to: https://tickets.solbar.com.au/outlet/.
