Witch Fingers to Black Bear Lodge

September 24, 20233 min read

Fortitude Valley: Los Angeles psych-punk quartet Frankie and the Witch Fingers is set to cast their spell on the Valley’s Black Bear Lodge this November.

The US proto-rock outfit, with their signature sonic alchemy and explosive performances, has returned with their seventh studio album, Data Doom, and featured track, “Mild Davis” with its mind-bending animated music video.

Inspired by Miles Davis’ early 70s electric work, the track winds through chunky riffs, commanding vocals and proggy-synths, before crash-landing into a minefield of angular guitar harmonies.

The four-piece band forges a sublimely galvanizing sound informed by their love of Afrobeat and proto-punk – a potent vessel for their frenetic meditations on technological change run rampant, encroaching fascism, and corrosive systems of power.

Frankie and the Witch Fingers has operated as an outright force of nature over the past decade, with their witchy brew of success only continuing to boil over the cauldron.

Animated by the explosive energy they’ve brought to the stage in sharing bills with such eclectic acts as Ty Segall and ZZ Top, the result is a major leap forward for one of the most adventurous and forward-thinking bands working today.

They told Hysteria Magazine they had been dying to play in Australia for some time.

“It feels like a dream that it’s finally happening,” frontman Dylan Sizemore said.

“I know there’s a lot of magic happening down there, and I feel very grateful to be able to finally experience what’s been emanating across the world”.

Bassist Nikki Pickle said: “I can’t wait for our first tour in Australia! The music scene there is so legendary, I keep trying to imagine what it’ll feel like to experience it firsthand, but I’m not sure anything could truly prepare us–I just know it’ll be rowdy as hell!”

Known for their mesmerising blends of vintage psychedelia and prog-rock energy, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, is thrilled to be playing at Fortitude Valley’s The Black Bear Lodge.

Few are as ready to meet this madness head on. Enter if you dare!

Frankie And The Witch Fingers will be at Black Bear Lodge, November 22, Wednesday, 7pm. Tickets: Oztix.
