5 best live music venues on Hastings St

September 4, 20234 min read

Noosa pianoman, band manager, and freelance journalist (wow what a mouthful of talent!), Jarrod Tutbury, gives us his favourite Noosa night spots when Hastings Street comes alive with music by dark.

The Sunshine Coast’s most famous main strip Hastings Street is a microcosm of European-style, wining, dining, shopping and gelato-ing.

With its air of elegance wedged between the picturesque Noosa Main Beach and a breathtaking rainforest of craggy cliff edges, and hikers and surfers aplenty, there’s a reason why this is Australia’s most-loved stretches of bitumen.

Since 2020 and its explosion of new residents, Hastings Street has experienced an enthusiastic resurgence of its live music scene, with talented local artists bringing a newfound sense of festivity and excitement.

Top 5 live music spots (in alphabetical order) on Noosa’s Hastings Street:

  1. Aromas: Aromas has been one of the key features of Noosa’s favourite street for almost 30 years, with its street-facing, outdoor tables. It’s the perfect place to sip a vino and take a moment to watch the world go by. This relaxed atmosphere is reflected by the live music, acoustic soloists and duos who create the perfect soundtrack to a lazy late lunch or sea-breezy early dinner. Regular musos include local icons Skillz and Sari Abbott. When: Friday to Sunday from around 1-6pm.
  2. Hastings Street Busking Corner: At the gateway to Hastings Street, by the main roundabout, is Busking Corner. The old Police Beat is now home to funky beats from an army of young buskers thanks to the efforts of the Hastings Street Association, who have brought us some incredible emerging talent who hone their skills every weekend. This busking corner is a true incubator for musicians, with past regulars such as Ampersand (pictured), Cora and Lochie, and Frank and Louis, who all now perform at major festivals. From classical pianist Christopher to 13-year-old singer/songwriter Henry Catania, you never know who you’ll discover. When: Saturday and Sunday, 5-8pm, with alternate Fridays and Thursdays.
  3. Noosa Beach House Restaurant and Bar: Part of the iconic Sofitel Noosa Pacific Resort, Noosa Beach House smacks of sophistication and is the strip’s most famous drink spot, right in the centre of Hastings Street. It’s the perfect place to quench your thirst and let your legs rest after browsing all the colourful boutiques. The exquisite menu is complemented by a tasteful arrangement of live music and DJs every weekend. Soloists are the main fare here, including Noosa faves Jack Raymond and Zac Threadgold. When: Friday to Sunday from 3pm.
  4. Noosa Social: Nestled under the Mantra French Quarter eaves, at the south end of Hastings Street, this uber cosy wine bar is a delightfully warm and welcome nook. The local owners curate a captivating line-up of upcoming artists who perform every Saturday. You’ll often find local stars such as Frank and Louis, Phoebe Rose, and ZARA. Sit back and relax with a cocktail and nibbles made fresh in-house. Since January, Ampersand has held a residency here, performing on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. When: Saturday evenings from 5-8pm.
  5. Rococo: Rococo is a multi-award winning restaurant located right on the main roundabout and is alfresco, contemporary-Italian dining at its finest. The atmosphere is magic here when the sun goes down and the soft lighting of the tree lanterns come to life. Visitors can enjoy sumptuous cuisine as they’re entertained by DJs and live tunes. Famous local duo Jay and Andy have been the melody makers here for years and always liven up the room. When: Friday nights from 7pm.
