With the highest density of working musicians in Australia it’s no wonder the Sunshine Coast is spoilt for choice when it comes to cosy recording studios tucked away from the rat race.
As a booming tourist region, the Coast naturally attracts a diverse range of talented original artists and it seems there’s plenty of well-equipped spaces for them to share their work with the world.
1. Yama-Nui Recording Studios
I’m going to confess to some personal bias with this one, because the legends here have just recorded my own band Ampersand‘s debut EP.
As a musician who has just produced a record there, I can’t recommend Yama-Nui Recording Studios enough.Â
Featuring prominent producers and engineers such as Paulie B, OJ Newcomb, and Scott Mathison – a veritable army of some of our biggest names as session musicians – Yama-Nui offers some seriously high-quality services.
The wealth of experience and knowledge commanded by the team here is mind-boggling and they know exactly how to turn your ideas into a reality.
Nestled in the hinterland, the studio is a perfect creative space filled with vintage instruments and analogue gear.
Having access to an authentic 1970s Rhodes Mk1 and 1980s Juno synthesiser makes all the difference for a pianist!
Yama-Nui also has a record label under the same name.Â

2. Glasshouse Studios
Spearheaded by Angus Woodhead – a musician, engineer and producer with over 30 years experience in the music industry – Glasshouse Studios is a high end, world-class facility.
Boasting an enviable gear list, including a Grand Piano and 1950’s Hammond Organ, the studio has ample space and is ready for even the biggest project.
Glasshouse Studios is hidden in the ridiculously quaint Glasshouse Mountains and offers producing, tracking, mixing and in-house mastering services.Â

3. Six String Studio
Located in Beerwah, Six String Studio is a quality recording studio, owned and run by Terry Jackson.
Armed with an amazing vintage SSL desk (pictured), this recording space was created to help musicians achieve the best possible sound while immersing them in a practical, yet inspiring space.Â
It also boasts an excellent selection of analog and digital gear which means artists can move past the technical worries and focus on the creative process and flow.

4. JamPot Studios
JamPot Studios is a professional digital audio recording and rehearsal studio in Noosa.Â
I drive by this little studio every week. It is a lovely, cosy and intimate nook for bands and soloists to connect with their art.Â
Run Noosa locals, they specialise in catering for the visions of local musicians and performers.
Recording, mixing, production and mastering services are all offered among others, and they have a solid selection of backline gear.
JamPot has great rehearsal rooms for hire also.Â

5. Nyssa Ray Recordings
Nyssa Ray is a creative powerhouse and the brains and heart behind Nyssa Ray Recordings.
This boutique recording studio in the Maleny hinterland caters for production, recording, mixing and mastering.
Specialising in capturing the visions of solo singer-songwriters in the genres of country, folk, pop and rock, Nyssa is especially skilled at nurturing emerging artists.
She helps them make that daunting bridging step between playing their originals live and making a professional recording.Â
Nyssa also offers coaching in music production and music-release strategy.Â
