Gold Coast band Loose Goose are heading into their next phase with a new single and a support slot with Beddy Rays, following what they describe as their biggest tour to date.
The band has just wrapped an 11-date run from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast, sharing stages with acts including Rum Jungle, Great Gable and Old Mervs.
The run also included a 500-capacity sellout at Miami Marketta in August 2025, packed rooms at Mo’s Desert Clubhouse and Junk Bar, and a venue ticket record at Elsewhere Bar.
Now they are keeping the momentum going with new track “Scumbags and Warlords” and a May 1 show with Beddy Rays at Coolangatta Hotel.
Loose Goose have built their following on shows that feel messy in the right way. Crowd surfing, rowing pits, lamingtons and left-turn stage moments have all become part of the band’s live identity, helping turn gigs into the kind of shared chaos people actually remember.
New single follows major east coast run
New single “Scumbags and Warlords” leans into a more direct, melodic version of the band’s sound, built around a punchy riff, big chorus energy and a 90s alternative rock streak.
Frontman Ryan Barwick said the track began after watching “American Psycho” for the first time and thinking about the kind of person who moves through the world convinced they are doing nothing wrong.
“The fact throughout the whole movie, Patrick Bateman is just killing people and being comical about it, kinda refuses to see any wrong doing, just made me think of how many assholes are out there who think they’re actually a good person,” he said.
“I thought it was a good place to start, someone wondering if there is a point in trying to do good if everyone else is just screwing each other over.”
Barwick said he originally shelved the idea for more than a year before returning to it with a new perspective after speaking with Gary Collocott of The Colliflowers.
“I could not settle on a chorus to save my life,” he said.
“He said to try change the perspective of the song, rather than writing about one specific scenario. I started to imagine it was about a getaway driver who’d been sold out, and suddenly everything was firing.”
Recorded with longtime collaborator Cameron Lockwood, whose credits include Wolfmother and Vlads, the single also features a sampled bark from Lockwood’s dog, Courage, in the choruses.
As the second release in a new wave of material, “Scumbags and Warlords” keeps the band’s driven edge intact while adding more shape, depth and a little more tension to the writing.
