Phil Jamieson has cancelled his 2026 PJ AIR national tour after fracturing his lower back in an on-stage accident just days before the release of his new solo album.
The Grinspoon frontman suffered a fractured L1 vertebra after slipping during a performance on Friday night and hitting his spine on a drum riser.
Jamieson was unable to finish the show and was taken by ambulance to Latrobe Hospital, where scans confirmed the injury.
“On Friday night I slipped on stage and my spine connected to the drum riser,” he said.
“I was unable to continue with the gig and got an ambulance to Latrobe Hospital.”
He said doctors had prescribed bed rest and warned of a long recovery.
“This means, sigh, that the tour is cancelled :(”
Queensland shows cancelled
The cancellation wipes out the remaining dates on Jamieson’s extensive PJ AIR national tour, including a Brisbane show at Crowbar scheduled for Thursday, August 13.
The tour was also due to return to Queensland in September for shows in Cairns, Townsville and Airlie Beach.
Ticket holders will be contacted by venues and ticketing agencies regarding refunds.
“No-one is more bummed about this than me, but I can’t stand up let alone play a gig at the moment,” Jamieson said.
New album still arriving Friday
Despite the injury, Jamieson’s second solo album, 10CHARLIE, will still be released on Friday, August 14.
It follows his 2022 solo debut Somebody Else and includes recent singles Weekends, Blue As The Sunlight and Reading Keats In Byron Bay.
The album was originally set to be accompanied by the PJ AIR tour, which had been scheduled to run around Australia through to September.
Jamieson encouraged fans to listen despite the cancelled launch celebrations.
“ALBUM is still out on Friday. While we won’t be launch partying together anymore…if you feel like wrapping your earholes around It, I would be grateful.”
For now, the Grinspoon singer says he will be focusing on recovery, signing off his announcement as “PJ in my pjs for the foreseeable future x”.
