Some news hits harder than others.
They all say they saw it coming but it was still a sad day for the Sunshine Coast after Council yesterday confirmed we are losing yet another beloved music event, the Caloundra Music Festival.
But do you think it’s time we accept that these festivals are a luxury of the past?
I can’t honestly say I will miss large-scale music festivals.
The last one I went to was a pretty big expense and my tween daughter was bored (despite the all-ages-ness).
Anything en-masse is nay-good for this introverted music punter’s ageing, old body and soul. I just don’t love crowds anymore and I don’t even drink alcohol.
I DO however still LOVE music and live music so the part where I am raving to songs I like suits me just fine. It’s the line-ups, the portaloos, the food and drink prices, and all the extra ‘filler’ time. And drunk people.
Give me smaller intimate nights out with incredible live music any day of the week.
But is that just a gluttenous spirit and anti-community?
Could they be better if orchestrated correctly?
Thanks for the memories Caloundra Music Festival (CMF).
Last year I popped my CMF cherry and made my inner-12 year-old’s dreams come true by jumping around in the mosh pit to Arrested Development with my own almost 12-year-old.
Watching local tween rockers Wave Raiders get lifted onto the stage by Spiderbait was an ICONIC moment as we bounced around living our best Sunny Coast music lover lives.
But it also turns out it would be our last.
Bring on The Big Weekend on July 13 and The Pineapple Festival on October 19.
And long live Sunny Coast live music.
