Sunshine Coast cool-cat record producer Alex Henriksson co-runs Rainbow Valley Records with Australian singer/songwriter, Matt Corby (main picture). When he’s not taking musicians to the top, he runs the uber-hip Sunshine Coast Music Club (SCMC) at Kunda Park.
SCMC, which has seen the likes of The Dreggs, is his passion project, and better yet, it’s free and open to anyone with a passion for music.
Yelo: I hear you are the man behind SCMC?
Alex: I am indeed. I own Rainbow Valley Records with Matt Corby and I’ve been a producer and writer for a long time.
Yelo: What’s it all about?
The Club is just a way for me to share my knowledge over the years with young artists or people who wanna get involved in the industry, offering advice and mentoring around music industry production and songwriting. Now we have a showcase we will do every couple of months as well to show off some of the amazing talent up here. All for free.
Yelo: How did the idea come about?
Alex: Music Club came about from just wanting to give back to the music community.
Yelo: Who is it suitable for?
Alex: Music Club is for anyone musically inclined or wanting to work within music.
Yelo: Which notable guests have you had? How did you pull these?
Alex: So far we have had Bradley from La Dispute, The Dreggs and Matt Corby. They are all my close friends.
Yelo: How long will they continue to run for?
The club will run for as long as people need it and keep showing up.
Yelo: Will we be famous musicians after attending?
Alex: No guarantee of anything but I hope this will provide a platform for your journey to fame if that’s what your outcome should be. I prefer to help people find sustainable music careers.
We agree with that one, Alex! (Someone please pass the sponsorships!)
Sunshine Coast Music Club is at Light Industry Studio, Kunda Park, on Tuesdays, from 4.30pm. Look out for updates on the Light Industry Studio Instagram page.
