South Brisbane: Emerging musician Jack Raymond will add some Sunny Coast flavour to the second iteration of the Brisbane Singer-Songwriter Sessions on October 22.
On the back of his successful Victorian tour, Raymond joins Brisbane outfits The Verandahs, Hazel Mei and Maisy Taylor for a special night of music and storytelling at eclectic 70s disco den, It’s Still A Secret, South Brisbane.
All four acts are some of the finest in the city’s up-and-coming indi-folk scene, and they will each showcase their unique flair in this special four-part event which gives audiences a glimpse into the world of song writing.
Raymond (pictured below with Jay Bishoff on their recent southern tour) brings an outstanding professionalism to the stage, having earned an ever-growing fan base with more than 4000 monthly Spotify listeners, and recently releasing an epic music video for his single, “The All of Me”.
“We had an epic time on the road, a heap of great gigs over three weeks,” Raymond said.
“The music really began to flow and the communities in the south we visited welcomed us with open arms. I’ve got a feeling it’s just the beginning of our musical travels.”
Originally from the snow-tipped high country of northern Victoria, Raymond is truly the “voice of the mountain” with his rootsy, relaxed, Aussie-Americana style, deep, laidback grooves, and songs which give an emotional punch.
The Noosa narrator has a powerfully raw, unrefined and gritty voice which speaks a truth told only found in the corners of late night whiskey bars.
Raymond said he preferred to tell stories of his life travels with his song-craft drawing inspiration from the great early wordsmiths and writers.
He said he was excited to be able to bring his songs and experience to the Brisbane Singer-Songwriter Sessions, when he shares the house with his fellow local indi peers.
“I’ve only played in Brissy once or twice so I’m really excited to get wedged into the scene there and start branching out.”
Originally from Byron Bay, Maisy Taylor (pictured) effortlessly blends folk, pop and indie influences in her writings, with a rich vocal prowess and songwriting finesse.
Hazel Mei brings an air of poise and attitude, as she embraces the rich tapestry of modern music to create a sound of her own, with her assertively indie tunes tinted with a jazz underlay. Mei’s mildly cynical and reflective pieces are whimsical takes of the day-to-day.
The Verandahs consists of main man, Karl Priebe, whose blend of indie-folk with a slight country tinge, encapsulates story-telling and mood-capturing at its peak.
Catch the second instalment of the Brisbane Singer-Songwriter Sessions on October 22, with doors open from 7pm and performances from The Verandahs, 7.30pm-8pm, Hazel Mei, 8.10pm-8.40pm, Jack Raymond, 8.50pm-9.20pm, and Missy Taylor, 9.30pm-10pm.
