Festival and Showcase Applications for Musicians
Festival and showcase selectors need to hear the music, understand the live act and see why the timing makes sense.
The best application is not the longest. It gives the right evidence quickly and follows every instruction.
Before applications open
- Keep one current live video ready.
- Maintain a short and long artist biography.
- Prepare high-resolution portrait and landscape photos with credits.
- Keep streaming, ticketing, radio, press and audience figures current.
- Know the release, tour or campaign the appearance would support.
- Make contact details easy to find.
Answer the programming question
Why this artist, for this event, in this year? A recent release, strong live development, a Queensland story, a growing audience or a clear export plan can all matter. Choose the evidence that matches the event instead of sending the same generic pitch everywhere.
Showcase applications need an industry plan
For an industry showcase such as BIGSOUND, explain what the team is ready to do with the opportunity. Name the markets, partners, release plans or conversations that make the timing useful. A showcase slot is not the whole strategy.
Do not make selectors hunt
Use direct links, working permissions and clear file names. Put your strongest relevant song or video first. If the application asks for two links, send two links.
Queensland opportunities to watch
Track annual artist calls through the Queensland Music Calendar, YELO’s Queensland Music Festivals Guide, QMusic, council arts programs and individual festival channels.
After submitting
Record the deadline, expected decision date and material supplied. If unsuccessful, keep building the live show and apply again when the work has moved forward. A no can reflect programming balance, timing, genre, geography or hundreds of strong applications competing for a small number of places.
Build the supporting material with YELO’s EPK and release guide, check current grants and opportunities, or return to the YELO Artist Toolkit.
