At least three people were reportedly injured when a temporary grandstand collapsed during the sold-out Red Hot Summer Tour at Coolangatta Beach on November 1.

The concert continued after the incident, with Eskimo Joe performing when concertgoer Cathy Thatcher spoke to YELO at approximately 5pm.

The collapse happened shortly after 2.30pm during Boom Crash Opera’s set, according to The Courier-Mail. Police, medical staff and event workers cleared the affected seating area and assisted concertgoers.

The newspaper reported at least three people were injured, with some taken to hospital for further assessment. The final number of injuries and their severity have not been independently confirmed by YELO.

The show goes on after grandstand collapse

The concert reportedly resumed about an hour after the incident, while the damaged grandstand remained closed. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.

Speaking to YELO at approximately 5pm on Sunday, concertgoer Cathy Thatcher, who supplied photographs from the scene, said she noticed people standing and looking towards the grandstand but did not witness the collapse itself.

“All I saw was people standing up and looking so looked myself and it was kinda done,” Thatcher told YELO.

According to The Courier-Mail, organisers said the grandstand had been inspected and cleared by engineers the previous day. The organisers have also reportedly pledged refunds for patrons seated in the affected section and a full investigation.

The official event listing confirms the November 1 Coolangatta Beach show was sold out. The bill includes Australian Crawl, Men At Work, Birds of Tokyo, Eskimo Joe, Vika & Linda, Boom Crash Opera and Ella Hooper.

YELO has not independently verified the cause of the collapse. This report will be updated as further information becomes available.
