For those seeking accomodation options during the festival, Tent City is a very handy option.
A few tips for surviving Tent City at Woodford:
Located at Woodford Showgrounds, Tent City is a five minute drive from the festival, with air-conditioned coaches running 24/7. It offers comfortable amentities such as showers and toilets, so it’s more like camping at your best mate’s house.
- Make sure to get ALL the add-ons when you make your booking. Your tent will come set up, which is just what your jelly legs will need after a long day in the festival heat, but make sure you grab that tent light option, too. And the fan!
- If you aren’t keen to pay for your tent “extras”, be sure to bring them. You don’t want to be left without an essential sleeping item like a bed mattress (like we did last year!) as they are not included. Thankfully we were able to borrow some, but without them it was going to be a tough night’s sleep on the bare, metal stretcher bed. Ouch.
- It’s hot at Woodford, like heat-wave style hot. The Eastern Bloc tents are pitched in the middle of an exposed oval. While the grounds are delightful and green, there’s no extra shading for the tents. With no fan (don’t forget one!), we were forced to evacuate our humble abode by 8am, a little earlier than planned.
- A torch is super handy for finding your tent during midnight bathroom visits, and also because the tents are pitch black inside without one.
- In this wet-season mania, the weather can take you in any direction at any time, meaning camping can be a little er, muddy at times. Don’t forget your gum boots, ponchos and umbrellas!
- The more you can prepare for your stay, the more pleasurable it will be. Go all out and be comfy we say! This is not the time of year to be roughing it.
