A man in his 20s has tragically died at the sold-out Knockout Outdoor music festival in Sydney overnight.

It comes as two men died of suspected drug overdoses after attending last year’s event.

However, in this case the man is not suspected to have taken drugs.

Emergency services were called to Hall 5 at Olympic Park, in Homebush, just before midnight on Saturday, however paramedics could not revive him.

New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb spoke to media on Sunday, saying the incident was “unfortunate”.

“We understand he had underlying health issues, and there’s no suggestion of any drug taking,” Ms Webb says.

She said a crime scene had been established and investigations into the incident had commenced.

Ms Webb warned festival-goers to be aware of the potential hazards of attending festivals, especially if they wanted to consume illicit drugs.

“It’s always risky whenever you take illegal drugs, you never know where they’re made.”

Three other people were also taken from the festival by ambulance to the hospital.

The event, touted as “Australia’s largest outdoor live music festival”, is organised by entertainment company Harder Styles United.

Approximately 60,000 people attended the event.

A report on the man’s death is being prepared for the coroner.
