A Sunshine Coast nightclub which has entertained guests since the 80s is set to reopen with new owners this weekend.
The Rock Noosa, which has been operating on Hastings Street since 1987, will hold a soft opening with “guaranteed trading hours”.
The venue, which brought DJs and a place to boogie after dark to locals and visitors for three decades, has endured a chequered history in recent times.
Originally known as The Rolling Rock, the 530sqm site at 28/18 Hastings Street, was listed for more than $750,000 in June, 2023.
It sold to Sydney businessman Ken Woods for an unknown price, and became the Aqua Lounge and Nightclub.
But by July this year, Mr Woods faced a similar fate putting the venue up for sale less than a year after a $400,000 rebranding as the water-themed cocktail bar.
The venue’s new name pays homage to its loyal patronage over the years, as it was known affectionately by locals as “The Rock”.
New owners of The Rock Noosa opt for soft opening
In a post on The Rock Noosa’s new Instagram page three days ago, the owners can be seen lifting the old Aqua signage off the wall, with the words: “It’s happening please follow for updates”.
And yesterday, the same video was posted with the words, “Soft opening of @therocknoosa this weekend guaranteed trading hours 8pm – 2am Thursday to Saturday.”
The new owner Ian Banks, known as DJ Banksy (pictured), took to Facebook on November 20 saying, “We bought a f##king night club”.
With musicians and venue owners only recently protesting about noise limits at Noosa Junction, the extended hours should come as welcome news to the local music community.
More to come.
