American rapper and music producer Shawn Carter AKA Jay-Z has denied raping a 13-year-old girl with disgraced rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, saying the allegations are “so heinous in nature”, and that his only heartbreak will be seeing his family deal with the press.
An updated civil complaint filed on Sunday alleges that the incident with Jay-Z and Diddy took place at an afterparty of the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000.
The civil lawsuit was filed in New York in October, naming Diddy as the defendant, but was refiled on Sunday to include Jay-Z.
The high-profile rapper and billionaire posted a statement to X via his management service Roc Nation today, rejecting the accusation reportedly filed by a lawyer named Tony Buzbee.
The post says: “My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter. What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle.
“No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion.
“So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!
“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!!”
Jay-Z’s concern for his family in dealing with the press
His statement follows, “my only heartbreak is for my family”.
“My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people.”
Diddy has been accused of more than 150 accounts of sexual abuse, including against a 10-year-old boy. He also denies his involvement in the alleged rape with Jay-Z.
More than two dozen lawsuits have been filed against Diddy, 13 of them by Mr Buzbee.
Jay-Z shares three children with his wife, global pop-star, Beyoncé. They have two daughters, Rumi and Blue Ivy, and a son, Sir.
