Coolum High students are making national noise, with Sunshine Coast hardcore band TwoSeventy named as one of five finalists in the 2026 triple j Unearthed High competition.

The annual competition searches for the best high school-aged music artists in Australia, with more than 1000 entries narrowed down to five finalists for 2026.

Among them is TwoSeventy, a Sunshine Coast hardcore and beatdown band featuring Coolum State High School Year 12 students Gage Doyle and Vann Little, alongside former Coolum High student Bowie Smith.

The band has been recognised for its track “S.C.B.D”, a heavy Sunshine Coast cut that has been picking up serious attention on triple j Unearthed.

Sunny Coast beatdown goes national

Sunshine Coast heavy music gets a national moment

Coolum State High School shared the news this week, saying its musicians had been “making waves” in the national competition.

Year 12 students Gage Doyle and Vann Little, from Coolum State High School, are part of TwoSeventy, alongside former Coolum High student Bowie Smith.

TwoSeventy formed in December 2024, with a sound inspired by bands including Speed, Sunami and Whispers, and have quickly pushed their heavy sound through local rooms including Black Box Theatre and onto a national stage.

Another Coolum High student featured

The school also gave a shout-out to Year 10 student Raf and his band Soleil, who were also featured in this year’s competition.

The result adds to a growing sense that the next wave of Sunshine Coast music is already coming through loudly, with young local acts finding national ears before they have even finished school.

The winner of triple j Unearthed High 2026 is expected to be announced early next month.
