Their first Sunshine Coast show in November has been a complete sell-out for much-loved Australian band Boy & Bear.
Thankfully the lads have opened up a second show, on November 8. But be sure to snag a ticket as this show will most certainly follow suit.
Boy & Bear is a favourite indie-folk band and best known for their favoured hit nation-wide, “Southern Sun”.
The colloquial classic is a modern take on Australia, with its soothing, whimsical, and uptempo soulful rhythm.
It’s not surprising their song has almost 68 million streams on Spotify (you read that right, sir!).
Best-known song evokes a patriotic spirit in Australians
“Southern Sun” is evocative in spirit, and apparently inspired by works of Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac and Paul Simon.
It even snagged a spot on US comedian Conan O’Brien’s late night TV show in 2014.
“Fall At Your Feet” is another wildly popular track and is a cover of Crowded House‘s 1991 global hit.
And “Wicked Game” – a cover of US rock musician Chris Isaak‘s famously haunting tune – is too popular with fans.
A gig with Crowded House and a whiskey commercial
The band has played alongside Crowded House, and even did a whisky campaign with US actor Matthew McConaughey.
It’s hard to believe “Southern Sun” is celebrating 10 years since its release as the lead song on their second studio album, “Harlequin Dream”.
Boy & Bear’s four previous albums have all taken top 10 spots on the ARIA charts, with two albums, including “Harlequin Dream”, making it to number one.
In recognition of their new self-titled album, “Boy & Bear”, this first regional tour in many years will be an honour for many. as this iconic Aussie band performs in Caloundra and across Australia.
There hasn’t been a more perfect time for Boy & Bear to bring their charismatic and uniquely warm and enveloping presence back home.
Boy & Bear performs at Kings Beach Tavern, Caloundra, Sunshine Coast, on November 8. Tickets: Oztix.
