Jack Raymond brings songs to Brisbane

October 4, 20233 min read

Emerging musician Jack Raymond will bring the Sunshine Coast flavour to the second chapter of the Singer-Songwriter Sessions at It’s Still A Secret.

On the back of a successful Victorian tour, Jack will join Brisbane acts The Verandahs, Hazel Mei and Maisy Taylor.

The night of storytelling will be held at the eclectic 70s disco-den in South Brisbane on October 22.

The acts are some of the city’s finest in the up-and-coming indie-folk scene, with each to showcase their unique flair.

This special four-part event aims to give audiences a glimpse into the world of songwriting.

Jack brings outstanding professionalism to stage

Jack (pictured with Jay Bishoff on their recent southern tour) brings an outstanding professionalism to the stage.

Originally from the snow-tipped high country of northern Victoria, Jack is the “voice of the mountain” with his roots-y, relaxed, Aussie-Americana style, and deep, laidback grooves.

The Noosa narrator has a powerfully raw, unrefined and gritty voice which speaks a truth told only found in the corners of late night whiskey bars.

He has earned an ever-growing fanbase, with more than 4000 monthly Spotify listeners, and he recently released an a music video for song, “The All of Me”.

“We had an epic time on the road, a heap of great gigs over three weeks,” Jack says.

“The music really began to flow and the communities in the south we visited welcomed us with open arms. I’ve got a feeling it’s just the beginning of our musical travels.”

Drawing inspiration from great early wordsmiths

Jack says he prefers to tell stories of his life travels, with his song-craft drawing inspiration from great early wordsmiths.

He says he is excited to be able to bring his songs and experience to the Singer-Songwriter Sessions, when he will share the house with local indie peers.

“I’ve only played in Brissy once or twice so I’m really excited to get wedged into the scene there and start branching out,” he says.

About the artists

Originally from Byron Bay, Maisy Taylor (pictured) effortlessly blends folk, pop and indie influences in her writings. Her rich vocal prowess and songwriting finesse is sure to impress.

Hazel Mei brings poise and attitude, as she embraces the rich tapestry of modern music to create her own sound. With assertively indie tunes tinted with a jazz underlay. Mei’s mildly cynical and reflective pieces are whimsical takes of the day-to-day.

The Verandahs‘ main man Karl Priebe blends indie-folk has a slight country tinge. It captures storytelling at its peak.
