The Rock Noosa re-opens this weekend

November 22, 20242 min read

The Rock Noosa, which has entertained Sunshine Coast guests since the 80s, is set to re-open this weekend.

The nightclub has been operating on Hastings Street since 1987, and has new owners. It will launch with soft opening with “guaranteed trading hours”.

The venue has brought DJs and a place to boogie after dark to locals and visitors for three decades.

Originally known as The Rolling Rock, the 530sqm site at 28/18 Hastings Street, was listed for more than $750,000 in 2023.

It sold to Sydney businessman Ken Woods for an unknown price, and became Aqua Lounge and Nightclub.

But by July this year, Mr Woods saw a similar fate, selling the business less than a year later. It was re-branded as a $400,000 water-themed cocktail bar.

The new name pays homage to its loyal patronage, affectionately known by locals as “The Rock”.

New owners of The Rock Noosa opt for soft opening

Posted to the venue’s Instagram three days ago, the owners can be seen pulling old signage from the wall.

The words read: “It’s happening please follow for updates”.

Yesterday, the same video was posted with another mysterious message.

The post says: “Soft opening of @therocknoosa this weekend guaranteed trading hours 8pm-2am Thursday to Saturday.”

New owner Ian Banks, known as DJ Banksy (pictured), said on Facebook: “We bought a f##king night club”.

With musicians recently protesting about noise limits at Noosa Junction, the extended hours should be welcome news to the community.
