Nambour: Music will fuse with paint, skateboards and mayhem on Thursday night as part of Horizon Festival, which runs until September 3.
Local muso Sam Taylor, of Fat Dog and The Tits, is hosting a PYOS (paint your own skateboard) workshop at The Old Ambo in downtown Nambour, the Coast’s soon-to-be major arts precinct.
Whether you’re a Tony Hawk-wannabe who likes to grind the cement at Alex Heads or simply like the idea of a skateboard hanging over the mantle piece, this vibrant workshop is sure to bring a smile to the face of even your most beige friends.
Sam (AKA Fat Dog), who likes to transcend the mundane through creation, typically with acrylic on – you guessed it – skateboards, says this event is for anyone looking to put a solid sense of frivolity back into their lives.
This musician/artist-who-can-do-bloody-everything said this joyfully chaotic event supported mental health by promoting “laughter as pure medicine”.
She said the event was for anyone from lovers chasing a date-with-a-difference, relatives seeking to put the colour back into the old sepia photo album, or those simply on a solo self-care mission, with plenty of opportunity to meet new people.
Sam is a wildly fun artist and colourful caricaturist of herself, who exudes a passion for hilarity and all things grotesque. Because crudeness is funny! Toilet humour anyone?
So, if your skateboard wheels could do with a lick of caleidoscopic brilliance painted by yours truly or the pool room needs a new rose amongst the thorns, then pop this one on the kitchen calendar, pronto.
There might even be some impromptu tunes from the Fat Dog herself. But we didn’t tell you that (hey, no pressure Sam!)
All materials are provided, just bring yourself and those up-tempo vibes.
The PYOS workshop will be at The Old Ambulance Station, 80 Howard St, Nambour on Thursday, August 31, from 6pm-8.30pm. Get your tickets here, from $70.
