Fortitude Valley venue QUIVR will open its new 170-capacity Sound Room on Saturday, expanding the queer-owned music hub into the neighbouring Winn Street tenancy.
The September 12 launch follows a year of planning and a six-week build, giving QUIVR an indoor ticketed room alongside its existing laneway bar, livestream DJ booth, radio station and DJ school.
The Sound Room takes over the former Tym Guitars space next door and can operate separately or connect with QUIVR’s existing 100-capacity area, lifting the combined capacity to about 270 people.
New room built around sound
Music sits at the centre of the new room, with a bespoke DJ booth and a custom hand-built speaker system designed specifically for the space by sound architect and DJ Ethan Greaves.
The room also includes a stage with professional backline and modular seating, allowing QUIVR to host live bands as well as DJs, listening events and ticketed shows.
A street-facing entrance from Winn Street leads into a dining area, with small plates, wine and cocktails planned alongside the music program.
Founders Dara and Hollee Sol launched QUIVR in 2020. The Fortitude Valley operation has since expanded from an online radio and livestream platform into a bar, DJ school, agency and event space.
The expansion was backed by the Australian Government’s Revive Live program after growing booking demand pushed the existing laneway to its limits.
Hollee recently told The Music the business was still operating week to week, with the larger room creating a way to fund artists through ticket sales rather than relying on bar income.
Sound Room launch this Saturday
The Sound Room launch will take over the full QUIVR venue from noon until midnight on Saturday, September 12, with a program of local DJs and artists across the indoor room and laneway.
First-release tickets have sold out, with second-release tickets currently listed at $33.95. The event is 18+.
