Sunshine Coast music industry calls for judges for inaugural awards night

February 17, 20254 min read

The Sunshine Coast Music Industry Collective (SCMIC) is calling on local leaders to help judge the Sunshine Coast Music Awards.

The inaugural awards will be on June 1 at Your Mates Brewing in Warana, supported by Sunshine Coast Council.

Community representatives are asked to nominate themselves or others via social media or the SCMIC website.

Applications open on February 24 and there will be 11 award categories.

SCMIC formed in 2022 and is dedicated to growing the local industry and fostering opportunity for musicians and its workers.

Committee members voted in at inaugural general meeting

Executive Members and Committee Members were voted in by the public at SCMIC’s inaugural annual general meeting, on January 16.

Solbar’s Melissa O’Bryan was elected as Chair, ABC’s Sarah Howells as Vice Chair & Secretary, and UniSC’s Dr Andy Ward as Treasurer.

Uncle Kevin Starkey (pictured) is the Indigenous Chair and record producer Alex Henriksson joins the board as Working Musician Chair.

Yelo Mag music editor Penny Brand will work with local musician Jordan Lawrence (Calan Mai), Sunshine Coast Daily journalist Jarrod Tutbury, and The Station owner Chris Hignett, as SCMIC Committee Members.

Larissa Mahony is the SCMIC Administrator.

Please note: no committee members, executive members, nor the administrator can judge the awards.

About SMIC: SCMIC is the voice of Sunshine Coast music.

Its shared values are to inspire, educate, and provide opportunity.

With transparency of utmost priority, SCMIC encourages musicians, industry workers, and its supporters, to stay up-to-date with committee meetings.
