Weezer songs like “Island in the Sun” and “El Scorcho” have been blasted by fans in blow-up swimming pools for decades.
The Grammy award-winning, US alt-rock will bring all their hit summer rock-anthems to Brisbane Entertainment Centre on October 8.
Joining them is home-grown electro giants Regurgitator (AKA “The ‘Gurge”). And it’s about to be coming-of-age soundtrack like no other.
Expect Gen X crowds ( dust off those cords and Doc Martens) when these legendary rocksters bring a dose of nostalgia and great music.
The Weezer story
Breaking ground in 1994 with their debut record “Weezer” (AKA the blue album), these headliners have sold more than 17-million records worldwide. Their Indie Rock Road Trip tour has already played a sold-out run in the US, playing to upwards of 15,000 people every night.
Fans will be stoked to hear all their deep-cut classics including “My Name is Jonas” (Guitar Hero, anyone?), “Undone – The Sweater Song” and “Beverly Hills”.
And while Weezer had eight songs in Australia’s most popular radio countdown, the “Triple J Hottest 100”, between 1994-2002, it was “Island In The Sun” which became the band’s biggest hitter, placed at number seven in 2001.
Coming in close behind was “El Scorcho” (well God-damn you half-Japanese girls! Can we still say that anymore?) at number nine in 1996, and “Hash Pipe” at number 20 in 2001 (well, we all know what you were doing that summer).
Brisbane band set to support Weezer at Boondall
It will be a two-for-one-90s rock special when The ‘Gurge (pictured) amps things up with more revered hits such as “!(The Song Formally Known As)”, which was the band’s own highest-performing song in the “Hottest 100”, just tipping Weezer coming in at number six in 1998. Aussies are loyal, what can we say!
Regurgitator, and their catalogue of larger-than-life frenetic tunes, had a huge15 songs in the famous radio countdown between 1995-2004.
Fans can expect these songs and other juicy faves. Such as “Black Bugs”, “Polyester Girl”, “Everyday Formula” and “Happiness”. They are sure to bring back all those musically-balmy memories of ‘Hottest 100’-summers-gone-by.
