Country music icon Dolly Parton has died aged 80 at her home in Nashville, her family has announced.
The singer-songwriter, actor and philanthropist leaves behind one of the most recognisable catalogues in popular music, including Jolene, 9 to 5 and I Will Always Love You.
Born in Tennessee in 1946, Parton rose from humble beginnings to become one of country music’s defining artists, known as much for her sharp humour and warmth as her unmistakable voice and songwriting.
Across a career spanning more than six decades, she won multiple Grammy Awards, sold millions of records and crossed effortlessly into film, television and pop culture.
Her influence reached far beyond music. Through her Imagination Library, Parton helped provide free books to children around the world, becoming one of the entertainment industry’s most loved philanthropists.
Her death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and musicians around the world.
Parton was 80.
