Sunshine Coast musician Ziggy Alberts will release No Fin Steve on November 10, telling the story of a grandfather, his grandson and their connection to the sea.
Illustrated by Claire Tompkins, the book is set on Norfolk Island and draws on a family close to Ziggy Alberts.
It centres on learning to swim, building confidence in the water and the skills older generations pass on.
“This is a story about some very dear friends of mine and their relationship with the ocean,” Alberts says.
“It’s been years in the making, and it’s really special to finally bring it to life.”
Alberts says the confidence he has gained in the ocean has given him some of his favourite memories. The story also recognises the role elders play in teaching practical life skills.
While No Fin Steve is his first book for children, it is his third published book. It follows the poetry collections brainwaves (2021) and sun memos (2024).
A new album and an island launch
The announcement follows the October 16 release of Twin Flames, arriving in a month that also included Alberts’ Sunshine Coast coffee pop-up announcement.
The album brings Americana influences to his folk and surf sound, with songs including ‘Valerie’, ‘I Blame Myself’, ‘I Need My Woman’ and ‘Cyclones’.
Alberts will celebrate both releases with a free, family-friendly show for the Norfolk Island community at Salty Beer Garden on November 14.
Pre-order No Fin Steve through Alberts’ official store.
