On a beautiful warm night underneath the City’s skyscrapers, I headed deep into Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens to get ready to photograph Irish singer/songwriter Dermot Kennedy, known for his popular songs, “Outnumbered”, “Power Over Me” and “Giants”.
And I also happen to be a huge fan – squee!
The night’s entertainment kicked off with Sydney-based openers, Vallis Alps.
The electronic music-duo had one mission: to wow the audience and leave concert-goers in awe with their ethereal stage presence.
Lead singer Paris could be seen floating around the stage during their almost hour-long performance; each movement fluid, flowing like waves in the ocean.
With one singular spotlight on at all times, it was hard to take my eyes off Paris’ dancing, full of amazing fluidity and passion.
They were the perfect segue for 32-year-old Dermot, who brought his Irish charm and good looks, wowing the audience with every step he made on stage, as he unleashed some of his most raw and vulnerable acoustic songs yet.
With perfectly curated backdrops, the most sublime golden lighting, and thousands of screaming, adoring fans, it was pretty evident this night was going to be etched into thousands of memories for a lifetime.
Dermot carried with him the pure essence of a star, captivating and entrancing everyone who was there, as his exquisite, heavenly voice filled the riverside precinct with passion and conviction.
When Dermot played his most popular song, “Paradise”, the audience simply exploded into a dancing frenzy, and it was just so lovely to see so many happy people.
There was so much love and joy, and it was just what the City needed in the lead up to the crazy season.
It’s safe to say I left grinning from ear to ear.
