A new music festival which sold out in four days will see 1200 punters take over Alexandra Headland this month.

Bluff Fest brings Aussie surf-rock legends The Grogans and The Terrys to Alex Surf Club on November 30.

Local bands Shag Rock, Nana’s Pie, Emily Rink Band, Brook St and Karlou will also perform.

It’s the first festival of its kind for Alex Surf Club, forming part of the club’s 100-year celebrations.

Bluff Fest is expected to be an annual event and will raise vital funds to keep the beach safe.

Two-day celebration means community won’t miss out

If you missed out on tickets to Bluff Fest, there will be plenty more fun over the club’s weekend-long celebrations.

A second all-ages event will be held on December 1 just for the community and it’s free.

Expect to see the new pop-up Beach Bar (pictured), which will keep guests hydrated throughout the weekend.

The bar, which serves up delicious beverages from local breweries including Diablo, will run over six weekends this summer.

With live music from Friday to Sunday, visitors can unwind while taking in the stunning beach views.

Alex Surf Club crowds keep on growing

If you have been to Alex Surf Club’s Bluff Bar lately, you will know it’s not just the nips that are getting bigger.

Saturday nights are pumping with music-thirsty punters lining up well past the front door security. While Sundays attract a more mature crowd, seeking feel-good live music from local tribute bands.

It’s unsurprising the club won the Large Hospitality Business award for the second time at the Sunshine Coast Business Awards.

Gary Wilson, who has been living on the Coast for just five months, is the man behind Bluff Fest.

With a vast history of music industry experience, Gary and his family moved here seeking a sea change.

However, after picking up work driving the club courtesy bus, he quickly found himself back in the driver’s seat of what he knows best.

As the former owner of Karova Lounge (now Volta) in Ballarat, and Barwon Club Hotel in Geelong, Gary is now in charge of Alex Surf Club’s community development and events.

In his short tenure, Gary has not only organised Bluff Fest and the pop-up beach bar series, but also the hugely successful Bluff to Bar ocean swim.

Industry connections responsible for big names

In a massive industry flex, Gary drew on his connections inviting The Grogans and The Terrys to headline Bluff Fest, with tickets selling out in days.

The Grogans are a garage rock band from Melbourne, forming in 2016, and offer a 1960s surf-rock influence.

The trio has four studio albums, including their most recent, “Find Me A Cloud”.

Their mates, The Terrys (pictured), are an indie-rock band from Gerringong, forming in early 2020.

Their debut studio album, “True Colour“, released in 2022, peaked at number 17 on the ARIA Charts.

Bluff Fest is supported by RedBull, QUEvents, Lonely Lands Agency, Diablo Ginger Beer and Your Mates Brewing.

The event will be held in front of Alex Surf Club at Buhk Family Park, Alexandra Headland.
