Maryborough heavy-hitters Ruination take debut album on Queensland tour

November 3, 20254 min read

Maryborough alt-hard-rock trio Ruination are celebrating their debut album Everything Eventually with a mini-tour of South-East Queensland.

Kicking off their four-stop run to a home crowd last month, Ruination will now bring their electrifying show to Ipswich (November 7), Nambour (November 8), and Southport (November 9).

Driven by precision drumming, solid bass lines, and compelling riffs, Everything Eventually offers 11 honest tracks and a sound well beyond their time.

Recorded at King Street Studios with producer Mick Bristow, the music is a step-up in the band’s songwriting, performance and production, as they continue to build momentum in the Australian heavy metal scene.

“This album deals with loss, heartbreak, redemption, and soul searching,” says Ruination vocalist Luke Karolak (pictured).

“It’s not just 11 songs, it is 11 statements.”

The album picks up where their 2022 EP Whispers left off, adding five new tracks to complete the record.

Everything Eventually was a natural progression for us,” Luke says, “Fans from the beginning will love it.

“The production is huge! The album itself is the sum of three very hard-working, passionate guys who love what we do, and this is testament to that.

“This album is a reflection of our journey and growth as a band.”

Life, love, and the eternal quest for ‘something greater’

Ruination makes music which is relatable.

They tackle universal themes of life, love and loss, and explore existential ideas such as the eternal quest for something greater.

It’s all entwined into melodic soundscapes and finished off with their signature rock edge, which draws influences from greats such as The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Pixies, Cog and Tool.

New single Downward is a stand-out fave, offering a lush verse which sucks you straight in. It has an electrifying, hard-edged riff, and a cracking chorus which will have you passionately pumping your fist.

Downward is about dealing with loss, as well as the processes in connection with that, but also moving forward, and adopting a ‘what’s done is done’ mentality, living in the present,” Luke says.

“The song is based very loosely on a period in our lives where we are at the proverbial ‘fork in the road’, not knowing where to look, or turn.”
