Gympie will host a night of short films, live music and community when Space Girls Festival and Heart of Gold join forces this month.

Space Girls Festival and Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival will come together for Space Girls ON FILM at Gympie Music Hall on Friday, June 26.

The event will bring short films, live original music and community into the one room, with a program focused on women’s and LGBTQI+ voices across film and music.

Doors open at 6pm, with Gympie Music Hall set to become a pop-up cinema and performance space for the night.

The film program includes comedy, a musical, international animation and a local documentary, curated by 20-year-old Liz Wilkinson as part of her 2026 internship with Heart of Gold.

Nambour band brings the noise

The night will also feature live music from Nambour grunge/punk/rock band Lattes for MILFs.

The three-piece has spent the past two years playing across Southeast Queensland, with singles “Feminpissed” and “Converse Shoe” already out and a debut album expected to be recorded this year.

“The excitement of playing an inclusive, community-focused event where film and live music audiences intersect for us is pretty unique, so of course we are all so keen to join the Space Girls Festival family,” Lattes for MILFs said.

Cindy Vogels, founder and co-director of Space Girls Festival, said the event was about creating a welcoming night for film lovers, music fans and anyone looking for something creative in Gympie.

“We’re thrilled to bring these two festivals together in a relaxed, unpretentious space where stories and music can shine,” she said.

Nicole Harper, festival director of Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival, said the Gympie festival was built on the power of short film to create connection.

“Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival started in Gympie 20 years ago because of the power of short film to tell stories that make a difference, create empathy and connect us,” she said.

Tickets are limited, with $5 tickets available for people under 25.

Space Girls ON FILM is at Gympie Music Hall, 26 Channon Street, Gympie, on Friday, June 26. Doors open at 6pm.
