Brisbane live music venues go cashless

April 12, 20241 min read

Brisbane live music venues The Triffid and The Fortitude Music Hall have announced they will go cashless on May 1.

Local music punter Jules Walker isn’t happy with the move saying, “cash is legal tender”.

“It should never be refused.

“We should have the choice. It costs more to use a card with surcharges so we use cash where possible to save us money.”

Small Change Espresso at Nambour says its a win for businesses, with owner Ben saying “cash is a nightmare for businesses.”

The Triffid, a converted commercial hangar at Newstead with its own beer garden, is owned by Powderfinger bass player John JC Collins.

The music legend is also the co-founder of The Fortitude Music Hall, which touts itself as the largest ballroom venue in Australia.

Both venues announced going cashless on social media on Friday.

“Starting on 1 May 2024, The Fortitude Music Hall is going cashless to streamline your experience at our venue.

“All major credit and debit cards are accepted.”

The venues join live music giants Suncorp, Brisbane Entertainment Centre, and Brisbane Powerhouse, who are also cashless.

More to come.
