He became a global household name overnight with monster hit “Lazy Body”, which topped reggae charts globally.

It all kicks off in the Yarra Valley, Victoria’s famous wine region, for Heavy Congress on November 1.

Heavy Congress is expected to be the biggest gathering of a Jamaican ‘sound system’ in the southern hemisphere.

Echo then performs in Moorabbin on Melbourne Cup Eve for the Dub Plate and Dinner Date, on November 3, set to be another massive DIY-sound system dance party.

In Sydney, fans can catch him at the Red Rattler Theatre on November 8.

80s reggae master Echo Minott hasn’t stopped making music

Echo Minott is one of the cornerstones of modern Jamaican music.

He has been making music for decades, since the release of his 1980 debut album “Youthman Vibration” at just 17.

Recorded by legendary producer Prince Jammy, the song led to a whole album of versions on the same rhythm.

But it was his 1985 global mega-hit “Lazy Body” which saw Echo break out as an international star.

Echo became a sensation in the UK first, with his song “Man in Love”. And as he grew as a popular dancehall singer, he scored his first Jamaican No. 1 single, “Love Problems”.

In 1992, Echo moved to New York and immediately had a massive international number one reggae hit with “Murder Weapon”. The song rode a version of Shaggy’s “Oh Carolina” rhythm.

“Mr Ruddy”, “Follow Me”, “Been Around The World”, “Whip Appeal” and “Artical Don”, ensured that Echo Minott remained a household name in the reggae scene for the rest of the 80s and into the 90s.

When the jungle explosion hit the UK in 1993/94, his song “Murder Weapon” was re-worked and became an enormous hit all over again.

Returning to Jamaica in 1994, Echo continued to release more dancehall hits such as “I Am Back”.

His most recent collaboration with Ikadub, “Dangerous Time“, was released in 2025. Have a listen here:
